Anne Hathaway Becomes 'Princess' in Disney Feature

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Anne Hathaway, who made a name for herself in the critically acclaimed though short-lived Fox series ``Get Real,'' has inked a deal to star in ``The Princess Diaries,'' a Disney feature being directed by Garry Marshall.

``Diaries'' concerns itself with a rebellious 16-year-old Angeleno who is informed that she is actually the princess of a Monaco-like European nation.  The story is based on an upcoming Meg Cabot novel. Shooting begins in September, and Whitney Houston will serve as a producer.

Hathaway is also starring in ``The Eye of the Storm,'' an independent picture about a young missionary who ventures to the island kingdom of Tonga.
