| Channel 4 compiled the 100 Greatest Number One Singles in the UK
in a poll. Over 100,000 people voted selecting from 105 number one hits from the 1950s to
last year (2000). The complete list was televised on Channel 4 over four hours on 5
January 2000. They acknowledged 'I Will Always Love You' as the biggest
selling commercial single ever. It is, in fact, second only to Elton John's Princess
Diana tribute single, 'Candle In The Wind 1997'.
