[From New York Post] November 24, 2002 -- WITH Diane Sawyer's intimate chat with Whitney Houston about to hit the airwaves, there's much speculation of drug use and domestic distress. I can safely tell you, the enormously talented Ms. W has had some trouble in her life these past few months - but she's back! Physically, she's clean as a whistle. Her marriage is intact and she's thankful, this Thanksgiving holiday, for the health and well-being of hubby Bobby Brown and daughter Bobbi Kristina. -- VICTORIA GOTTI [Thanks Michael G.]

The album is a diverse blend of ballads including Try It On My Own (written by Babyface and Carol Bayer Sager), My Love in which Whitney duets with husband Bobby and a powerhouse remake of You Light Up My Life (originally by Debbie Boone in 1977). Primetime Live usually airs on Thursday nights in the US, but the Whitney Houston interview has specifically been moved to Wednesday and an hour earlier than normal. This change has been designed to draw higher viewer ratings as Thursday nights are strong for rival channel, NBC now that the competition from 'ER' and 'Law & Order' is no longer there. Whitney's special will follow 'My Wife & Kids' with Damon Wayans. ABC have confirmed they will be doing massive promotional activity around the special over the next three weeks.
It is likely that Times Square will be closed down on Monday 9 December at approximately 2pm for a special three-song performance by Whitney Houston. Official confirmation should be forthcoming shortly. This promotional performance will air on Good Morning America the following day, Tuesday 10 December which is also the confirmed release date of 'Just Whitney...' in the US. Good Morning America also plan to air taped segments of a Whitney Houston interview on December 4, 9, 10 & 11.

Whitney Houston This follow-up to the 10m-selling My Love Is Your Love sees Houston marking time with the usual slew of ballads and R&B-lite workouts. Rather undynamic as a collection, the single Whatchulookinat hints at what is to come. Uninspired ballads (On My Own) and dull pop-funk (Love That Man and Tell Me No) do not a good album make.
UK music trade publication, Music Week, again confirms 'Just Whitney...' for release on 25 November 2002 as does the UK BMG website, Click2Music and all UK based online music retailers, despite the Platinum Club's report that the album is due on 10 December 2002 (a US release date since it is a Tuesday, not a Monday when International releases occur). The HMV UK website lists the following track listing for the new release which is slightly different to that published here yesterday from Amazon (US): 1. Whatchulookinat? Bonus DVD

Text From BMG Press Release: WHITNEY HOUSTON JUST WHITNEY With over 120 million albums and 50 million singles sold worldwide, Whitney Houston has already established an unparalleled legacy for herself. Yet rather than bathe in past glory, the singer who has influenced an entire generation of female vocalists now steps right back front and center with JUST WHITNEY , her first brand new album of the 21st century. "This album for me is about surviving, raising a family, being a wife or girlfriend and all the challenges that go along with those things," says Ms. Houston. "These songs are more about creating a mood than about anything in particular." The A-list hitmakers and producers who contributed to this album were handpicked by Whitney and Arista President and CEO, Antonio "L.A." Reid. Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds, Missy Elliott, Kevin 'She'kspere' Briggs, Teddy Bishop and Gordon Chambers are among some of the producers who assisted Whitney in crafting an album that is a timely testament to her endurance as a musical icon. The album is a diverse blend of ballads including "Try It On My Own," (written by Babyface and Carole Bayer Sager), "My Love," in which Whitney duets with her husband Bobby Brown and a powerhouse remake of "You Light Up My Life" (originally released by Debbie Boone in 1977). Songs with hip grooves such as "Love That Man" and the old -school style jam "Things You Say" (which was written and produced by Missy Elliott) are also among the album's tracks. The CD's promotional single, "One Of Those Days" (produced by She'kspere) is an infectious song about the need to chill out, relax and get away from the stresses of everyday life. "One Of Those Days marks the joyous, triumphant return of one of the great singers, who delivers the goods in glorious voice, singing a groovy, hip-swaying composition that is at last worthy of her immense talent." - BILLBOARD. In the same vein, with love as its theme, "Things You Say," produced and co-written by Missy Elliott, is a laid-back acoustic slow jam that goes back to the old school style and flavor of classic Curtis Mayfield; in contrast, "Dear John Letter," another track produced by She'kspere, details the inevitable ups and downs of a relationship and its ultimate end. Executive-produced by Antonio "L.A." Reid and produced by Whitney and Bobby, JUST WHITNEY follows the 2000 release of the GREATEST HITS package which sold over 8 million copies world-wide and included the gold single, "Could I Have This Kiss Forever." Two years prior, MY LOVE IS YOUR LOVE racked up 10 million global sales thanks to hits like "When You Believe," "Heartbreak Hotel," "It's Not Right But It's OK," the title track and "I Learned From The Best." Now comes her 2002 release, a record with a decidedly personal flavor that demonstrates the maturity and growth of an artist who has consistently triumphed as a multi-talented recording artist, performer, actress, producer and entrepreneur of the first order. And, as those who know will attest, through all of her accomplishments and achievements, she has remained - as the title of her sparkling new album implies - JUST WHITNEY [Thanks Roland]

WHATCHULOOKINAT James Masterton chart commentary: 13 WHATCHULOOKINAT (Whitney Houston) When an artist is the subject of much press and TV documentary speculation about their state of health and/or mind, you know they have some work to do. Michael Jackson finds himself in that kind of position at present and coming a close second is Whitney Houston who despite the critical acclaim of her last album My Love Is Your Love in 1999 has seen her reputation take a battering in the intervening period with tales of drug abuse, forgotten lyrics and bizarre behaviour in interviews abounding. Hence this single is clearly designed as a riposte to her critics and an excellent way to state to the musical world "I'm back and still fighting." Maybe not her most commercial release ever and in truth perhaps a little overproduced, it still performs respectably enough given the slight lack of radio and television exposure that has blighted its chances slightly. A Top 10 entry would possible have befitted an artist of her standing better but in the light of all the negative publicity that has surrounded her of late, a Number 13 entry isn't too much to complain about. It is at the very least her 33rd chart single since 1985 and the 28th to make the Top 20.
