Clive Plays New Whitney Cuts At BMG Meeting Arista Records head Clive Davis made a surprise appearance at the BMG Entertainment worldwide meeting in Los Angeles yesterday (April 12). Davis, who had not been expected to attend, played the attendees snippets of four new songs from Whitney Houston's two-CD greatest-hits collection, due out May 16. Puff Daddy also appeared, touting his new group, Dream. In related news, Arista will release an 8-song sampler, as well as a DVD and home video, culled from the April 10 taping of the label's 25th anniversary celebration in L.A. The $7.99 sampler, available exclusively at Target, will contain live songs from the taping, as well as studio cuts from the evening's participating artists. It will be released the weekend before the special's May 15 airing on NBC. The non-exclusive DVD and VHS versions, containing extra footage, will be released June 6. Net proceeds from sales of the products will go to amFAR AIDS research, City Of Hope, and the T.J. Martell Foundation, as did net proceeds from ticket sales from the show's taping. -- Melinda Newman, L.A. NEWSFILE: 13 APRIL 2000 |
