[New York Daily News Report] Comeback for Clive - Clive Davis is back in action. The Arista Records founder forced out by his German bosses at BMG for refusing to name a younger successor has formed a new label, J. Records, with $180 million in BMG money. The name of Davis' company comes from his middle initial, and the official announcement is expected to come at any minute. The deal calls for Davis to take with him such Arista artists as LFO, Angie Stone, Deborah Cox, Next and Abra Moore, I hear he's also landed O Town, the group featured in the new ABC series "Making of the Band." Davis will also continue his relationships with Whitney Houston and Santana as executive producer of their Arista albums. So ends a music business saga that for a long time was played out acrimoniously by both parties in the press. As Roger Friedman put it in his foxnews.com column, "Our long-suffering days are over. Clive has a deal." NEWSFILE: 14 AUGUST 2000 |
