Brown Again Delinquent in Support
Payments
June 15, 2004
Bobby Brown has fallen behind, yet
again, on making his child support payments to Kim Ward, and Tuesday it
resulted in angry words from a Massachusetts judge, who told the troubled
singer, "What I'm not understanding is why you're not getting the message."
Brown and Ward had two children back in the '90's, before Brown married
Whitney Houston. Back in March, the judge threw Bobby in jail for not making
$63,000 in back payments.
Despite his jail stint, Brown managed to miss the payments since his last
court date, paying up just one day before Tuesday's hearing. "Your children
need to eat," the judge warned Brown. "They can't be relying on getting a
payment every three months."
The judge threatened to throw Brown back in jail if he doesn't make timely
payments, but it appears that Bobby and Kim have agreed to work things out
on their own. After the hearing, the two were seen sitting together and
seemingly exchanging some pleasant words.
Brown and Ward told the judge they've hammered out a plan for Brown to keep
the payments up to date, and he says it's very important. "My kids have to
live right," he told us. "I am their father, no matter what."
Brown's wife, Whitney, wasn't at the hearing. The two have been working on a
reality show, which Brown says should wrap up taping this week. Houston
recently left detox, and the two have been in marriage counseling ever
since.
For now, Brown is making a very public promise about his children: "Those
are my kids, and I plan to take care of them no matter what."
And the judge wants to make sure of that, ordering Brown to prove each month
that he has paid. And if he doesn't do that, he could go back to jail.
