March 20, 2002 "LIZA'S NEW YORK Wedding Feels Like Old Hollywood" read the USA Today headline this week. MAYBE YOU WONDER, as I did, why Liza wore a full-length white mink coat over her wedding dress on one of the warmest nights of the year? Because her new husband had sold exclusive rights for wedding photos to O.K.! and People magazines, which publish at the end of this week. (Photos of the dress were embargoed.) And all to the tune of what's rumored to be the largest single-event syndicated deal ever. Speaking of money, let's get the negative part over with - Whitney Houston. Rumor has it (and I happen to believe it's more than just rumor) that Ms. Houston was the only person to demand sky high perks. They say that she asked for a private plane (that's at least $25,000) and hotels, limos and security.. But when she wanted $25,000 for a dress, that was too much! "The total she demanded for singing one song at the wedding came to over $100,000" is what I am told by a devout insider. When I asked David face to face, he said, "I won't comment. I just want to thank Natalie Cole for doing such a marvelous job. She was 'Unforgettable!'" Gest's intimates reiterate that he did not pay one dime to anyone to appear at this wedding or to sing at this party. Mr. Gest can be pretty impressive. I have decided that he has made a fool out of most of those who have bad-mouthed him. And we haven't seen the end of David Gest.
