March 17, 2004 -- WHITNEY Houston decided to go into rehab late Monday night because the timing was right. Her husband and enabler, Bobby Brown, is spending 60 days in jail for violating his probation on a drunk-driving conviction in Georgia, leaving the coast clear for Houston to get well and get her life in order. "She is in a serious rehab," a pal said, noting that Houston was not in the posh confines of Promises in Malibu, but rather at a less luxurious facility, probably in the Midwest. "Who knows, maybe this finally means the end for Whitney and Bobby. If she wants to get better, it won't be with Bobby around." One of Brown's parole violations included a December misdemeanor charge for allegedly striking Houston, leaving her with a bruised cheek and a cut inside her lip. Before going to detox, Houston begged - and got - her longtime p.r. woman Nancy Seltzer back. But Seltzer declined to comment. Seltzer parted ways with Houston last year as did several other longtime staffers and pals. Houston is said to be concerned for her daughter Bobbi Kristina and for her failing career.
