Pop music star Whitney Houston was recently cited for speeding in Gwinnett
County, going more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit, 11Alive News
learned Thursday.
Houston’s 2004 Porsche Cayenne SUV was pulled over on Satellite Boulevard by
a Gwinnett County police officer Tuesday morning. According to the citation,
Houston was going 68 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Houston’s attorney, Mark Trigg, said she was returning from dropping her
daughter off at school when she was pulled over.
“She's assigned a court date, if she wishes to show up in court and contest
the ticket, she's more than welcome to do that or, she can just pay the
fine,” said Gwinnett County police Cpl. Dan Huggins.
The court date has been scheduled for May 15.
Houston, who is currently in an in-patient drug rehabilitation program, has
been spotted twice in public in recent days. Trigg said Houston was in full
compliance with her treatment, which he emphasized was voluntary. Trigg said
Houston’s “in-patient treatment allows her to leave on matters related to
child care.”
Houston was recently photographed at a concert at Philips Arena featuring
Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Missy Elliot. Photographer Robb Cohen said he was
amazed at the attention his photograph has gotten from entertainment news
outlets.
“It totally took me surprise. Nobody has really been interested in the
performance shots of the concert. It’s all been interest in Whitney,” he
said.
Trigg said Houston is also allowed to leave on supervised visits on request.
Houston was accompanied by someone from the rehabilitation center to the
concert.
