Winans Plans Star-Studded Set On Motown Bebe Winans has signed to Motown Records and will
release an as-yet-untitled album in June 2000. The Grammy Award-winning gospel star will
duet with Brian McKnight, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, and
his sister, CeCe, on the set, which he says will "incorporate [my] signature style,
but be more R&B- and pop-flavored."
At a press conference today in New York, Winans claimed he signed with Motown "to do
what I love to do but suppressed for a while -- singing." He says he will "come
out of his comfort zone" on the album, and plans to work with multiple producers,
among them R. Kelly, Joe, and Knight.
Winans has won four Grammys, 10 Dove awards, two NAACP Image honors, and six Stellar
awards in his 13-year career. His last set, a self-titled solo album on Atlantic/Sparrow,
peaked at No. 125 on The Billboard 200, No. 2 on Top Gospel Albums, No. 5 on the Top
Contemporary Christian chart, and No. 36 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
