"I'm not afraid to say or mention
anything about me!" These are the words of Atlantic recording artist, singer
and songwriter Tweet. Tweet graced the Howard University family with a
performance of her the first hit single of her career "Oops (Oh My)" with
the Showtime Marching Band as her background. The songstress is currently on
the Seagram's Gin Live Tour and also performed at Washington, D.C.'s Club
FUR on Sunday, Oct. 10.
The New Jersey native, who is currently residing in Atlanta, is traveling
all across the country to promote her sophomore album, which will be in
stores early next year titled "It's Me Again." Her new single "Turn Da
Lights Off" is currently in rotation on many urban radio stations. She even
included on the CD a track she recorded with her daughter. "I felt that
track because my daughter and I were sanging, not singing, but sanging."
Also on the album is a song called "Could it Be," a duet with newly-famed
singer Rell from Roc-A-Fella Records. Tweet also recorded a song with the
infamous and legendary Whitney Houston. However, Tweet said that she would
save that track for the next album.
Currently, Tweet is listening to the rhythms of Van Hunt, Bilal, and a lot
of old school music. She mentioned that her favorite Van Hunt track is
called "Dust," which she does not mind playing on repeat.
Tweet said that her greatest inspiration throughout her whole career has
been her mother and father. "They are the ones who introduced me to
music...I would not have even known music without them!" She also speaks
highly of her daughter who has been her saving grace through many of her
trials and tribulations.
As many of her fans and critics know already, the songstress has had her
share of life's trials. "I'm a real person. I want people to know that I'm
not afraid to say anything!" She spoke of one time after a concert two
people who once contemplated suicide, as she once did, thanked her for
saving their lives.
With high expectations for the album soon to be released early next year,
she said, "People will feel this album because it includes day-to-day life
experiences that everyone can relate to!" Tweet also explained her casual
way of being a distinguished R&B female today. "My style never changes...I
didn't become all hip-hop on this album or anything-I'm just soulful!"
On her first album, Southern Hummingbird, Tweet described her mood as
somewhat shy and timid, but this time she swore that she was going to "hit 'em
something hot!" and reiterated, "I'm a real person and I want my fans to
know that!"
"Keep God first and make sure that this is what you want to do with your
life 24-7." This was some advice Tweet offers to aspiring artists and
musicians. "If it's meant to be, it will happen for you, especially if you
love it enough!"
