[Hollywood Reporter] 'Anything' goes for Uni, Smith, Houston, Flynn Will Smith and Whitney Houston are attached to star in screenwriter Tom Flynn's romantic comedy "Anything for You" for Universal Pictures. Flynn, who is also attached to executive produce, will receive high-six figures against in excess of seven figures for his involvement. The screenplay is about a man (Smith) who dumps his girlfriend (Houston) and eight months later realizes he made a big mistake. To win her back, he must endure a series of tasks his jilted lover has set up for him. It is unclear when the film will begin shooting. Houston would be available to begin lensing in the fall, sources said. Smith has a number of other projects in the mix, including Universal's "The Mark," for his next film. William Morris agents Nicole David, Sara Bottfeld and Gary Pearl brought the project to the attention of Houston and her partner Debra Martin Chase, who in turn got Smith and his producing partner James Lassiter interested. Houston, Martin Chase, Smith and Lassiter will produce and David Klawans will be a co-producer. Universal co-president Stacey Snider and senior VP Mary Parent will supervise the project for the studio. Universal won the rights to the script following heated bidding from a number of studios including PolyGram's Interscope Communications, Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox. Flynn previously wrote and helmed "Watch It" starring Peter Gallagher, Suzy Amis and John McGinley. Other projects he scripted include Paramount Pictures' "The Ambulance Chaser" and "The Over Under" and Warner Bros.' "Previous Commitment." Houston has starred in such films as "The Preacher's Wife" with Denzel Washington, "The Bodyguard" with Kevin Costner and "Waiting to Exhale." Smith, who is repped by CAA, has starred in such
blockbusters as "Men in Black" and "Independence Day." Other credits
include "Bad Boys" with Martin Lawrence and "Six Degrees of
Separation." NEWSFILE: 19 MARCH 1998 |
