WHITNEY HOUSTON ADMITS DRUG USE, OVERDOSE ON TELEVISED INTERVIEW

In her nationally televised interview with Diane Sawyer, Whitney Houston will addresses the numerous rumors about her marriage to Bobby Brown, her alleged overdose, her drug use, and her new album, among other topics.

The interview, which will air on Wednesday (December 4) on ABC's Primetime, reportedly runs the entire hour and additional portions will likely air the next morning on Good Morning America.

Sawyer addressed the rumors of Houston's drug use and overdose. When she asks Houston whether it was alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, or pills, Houston reportedly replies, "It has been at times." Sawyer follows up by asking "All of them?" and Houston replies, "Uh-huh. At times." Houston also denied that she had run up a $730,000 drug tab; and while she refused to call herself an addict, she admitted that she "had a bad habit... which can be broken."

The singer admitted that her near-fatal overdose, which was never officially confirmed until now, cleared her head. "When they said... I had died, I did. I changed my mind. I changed my mind. Yeah. Because I didn't want to look like the rest of them. I didn't want to be like them." Sawyer asked her if she came close to dying and Houston replied, "I think it was as close as anybody can get. A lot of folks have come closer. But that's as close as I want to be. That's as close as I think it gets and I don't mean any harm to anybody; it frightened me."

Describing herself as a person who is "not self-destructive," Houston said that she is "not a person who wants to die. I'm a person who has life, and wants to live." She adds that she prays every day.

Houston ascribes her past lifestyle to the industry and the fact that she grew up without a childhood. "My business is sex, drugs, rock and roll," Houston said. "My friends, we have a good time. But as you get older and you get wiser; you stop a lot of the kid stuff. I had no time to grow up, I had no time to party. I didn't even date in my 20s. It was rough. It was rough. I think I kind of reverted back as I got older and said, 'Well, I'm just gonna party,' It was kind of a rebel in me."

Responding to rumors of an eating disorder, Houston denied that she suffered from either anorexia or bulimia. Rather, she ascribed her weight loss to emotional stress and terrible eating habits. She also talked about her turbulent marriage to Bobby Brown. "You just never picture Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston together," she said. "Who did? ... And they didn't give us six minutes to last. We've gone 10 years. Love is where you find it. It's where you find it. And I found it in him. And he found it in me." She ascribes the turbulence of their relationship to the fact that the couple is in the public eye. "A lot of people, you know, that are married go through worse problems than us."

Houston also discussed her ill-fated Oscar appearance from which she was fired. She said that the firing occurred because "I was ... not getting along with the guy that was directing."

Regarding her new album, Houston said, "I think it is the Whitney that has endured 17, 18 years of music industry. Whitney that has endured slander and criticisms and all kinds of things. But this is a older, maturer, wise woman."

Sawyer also spoke with Brown during the interview and he admitted that he uses drugs to control a bi-polar disorder. He claims to be a "high-strung person" and says that using marijuana helps him to control the peaks and valleys.
