Bobby Brown TV show closer to reality
Associated Press
ATLANTA - It's appearing more likely that singing couple Bobby Brown and
Whitney Houston will get a shot at at least 15 more minutes of fame via
reality TV.
The Bravo network confirmed Wednesday that it has signed an agreement to air
10 one-hour episodes of "Being Bobby Brown" in spring 2005.
Brown, Houston and their family and staff have been spotted around Atlanta
since early this year, shooting footage for the program.
Bravo officials say the series will focus on Brown and his family over a
period of six weeks, as the pop star seeks to distance himself from his
legal troubles and revive his recording career.
Brown left the R&B group New Edition in the late 1980s for a solo career.
His hits include "My Prerogative" and "Every Little Step," but he has also
become famous for his numerous brushes with the law and his turbulent
marriage with Houston.
In May, a judge ordered there was enough evidence for Brown to stand trial
on misdemeanor battery charges for allegedly hitting Houston in the face at
their home near Alpharetta, a suburb north of Atlanta.
In February, he spent a month in jail for multiple probation violations
before being released a month early for a March child-support hearing in
Massachusetts. There, he spent another night in jail before paying a former
lover more than $60,000 in back child-support payments.
"'Being Bobby Brown' will allow the public to see Brown outside the context
of a pop icon and bad boy," said Bravo President Lauren Zalaznick in a
statement. "Rather, they'll witness an artist striving to clean up his life
for his future and the future of his family.
"Bravo is committed to providing programming that goes deep into the
internal worlds of creative people."
