Being Bobby Brown just got better.
After Brown spent months shopping his reality series around, it was Bravo
TV's prerogative to buy it. Now Mr. Whitney Houston has a 10-episode deal
with the ``arts and culture'' cable network, which will air ``Being Bobby
Brown'' sometime in 2005, according to the network.
`` `Being Bobby Brown' will allow the public to see Brown outside the
context of a pop icon and bad boy. Rather they'll witness an artist striving
to clean up his life for his future and the future of his family,'' said
Lauren Zalaznick, president of Bravo.
Cameras will follow a supposedly cleaned-up Brown, his fresh-out-of-rehab
wife, and his extended family over the course of six months. The series will
also ``demystify'' Brown's relationships with Houston; their daughter, Bobbi
Kristina; his two children with Stoughton resident Kim Ward; and his brother
Tommy, Bobby's personal manager.
But Bobby's life isn't that mysterious, considering Every Little Step he
takes has landed him either in the gossip columns or jail.
In fact, being Bobby Brown has included several trips to the slammer,
including a stay earlier this year at the Dedham House of Correction for
failing to pay child support to Ward.
He was arrested on sexual battery charges in California in 1998, served five
days in jail for drunken driving in Florida that same year, and has been in
jail in other states. In 2003, he was charged with misdemeanor battery - on
Whitney.
And in 1995, Brown narrowly escaped death in Roxbury when a barrage of
bullets tore through Houston's Bentley, killing Brown's cousin.
Tracey Baker, executive producer for B2 Entertainment, said the show will
let Bobby tell his side of the story.
``This show, shot cinema verite style, is an introspective look at Bobby
Brown the husband, father and friend,'' she said. ``This is his story, told
in his voice. Viewers can decide for themselves about what kind of man they
think Bobby Brown really is.''
