Glasgow Show...
Glasgow Evening Times: Whitney heads for Glasgow
by Deborah Anderson
GLASGOW has pulled off another music coup - pop diva Whitney Houston is to
play the SECC.
The announcement comes weeks after the city took centre stage when the Music
Of Black Origin awards were held at the same venue, the first time they had
moved outside London.
Whitney's appearance at the SECC will be her only Scottish gig at the venue
as part of her European tour. It is her first major tour in more than 11
years and she will perform in Glasgow on April 11 next year.
Her tour will see her perform in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, as
well as the UK.
Glasgow is still celebrating after last month's MOBOs proved such a hit and
raised £3.6million for the local economy, while about 350million watched the
event on live television.
Whitney releases her latest album, I Look To You, next Monday.
However, fans will be hoping her return to the SECC will be a little more
memorable than her last in 1991. She was criticised when she walked off
stage after just eight songs.
Whitney, who will be appearing on television talent show The X factor this
Sunday, said: "This is my first full tour since the My Love Is Your Love
tour and I am so excited to be performing for my fans around the world after
all this time.
"I am putting together a great show and cannot wait to perform the songs
from my new album along with some of your favourites."
In the 24 years since she released her self-titled debut album, which sold
25million copies, she has become a superstar and is one of the best-selling
female artists of all time, having sold more than 140million albums
worldwide.
Tickets for the SECC go on sale this Friday, priced from £50. They are
available by calling 0844 395 4000 or from the website: www.ticket SOUP.com
