Whitney wows Wang: Rest does Houston
good as she delivers the hits Whitney Houston cancelled her last two shows
to rest her voice. It would appear that New Jersey and Washington, D.C.'s, loss was
very much Boston's gain as the 35-year-old diva didn't hit a single bum note during last
night's jubilant performance at a nearly sold out Wang Theatre. Not that the
occasional flat or sharp would've marred the first of her two-night stand here in husband
Bobby Brown's hometown. (Brown was spotted in the wings beaming). For her first tour in
five years Houston was simply in perfect form: easy, gracious, regal and sassy during an
1-hour-40-minute set that leaned heavily on her jittery, hip-hop inflected new album
``My Love Is Your Love.''Gliding elegantly down the silver staircase that housed her
six-piece band and four backing singers, including brother Gary, Houston, in her Dolce
& Gabbana suit, proved to be the diva unafraid of diversity as she moved through her
multiplatinum catalog of pop songs and soundtrack hits. She crooned her early lite FM soul pop ballad "Saving All My Love For You." She took the crowd dancing with an exuberant ``I'm Every Woman,'' then to the after-hours club with the sultry ``Oh Yes'' and on to church in a rousing mini-gospel set that included a moving ``I Love the Lord'' and ``I Go to the Rock.'' What makes Houston different and endearing is that she's unafraid to get ugly or sweat as she throws her whole body into the work of praising the Lord with her strongest vocal flights. Six-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina emerged
to endear herself to the audience by contributing tentative vocals to mom's reggaefied new
single ``My Love is Your Love.''
