The Billboard update for the week ending 16 August 2003: TRY IT ON MY OWN:
[From Guardian Unlimited] Costner
wanted Diana for Bodyguard sequel Kevin Costner has revealed that he asked Princess Di to be his co-star in a sequel to his 1992 blockbuster The Bodyguard. In an interview with Primetime Thursday on America's ABC network, the Oscar-winner admitted trying to secure the royal as a replacement for original star Whitney Houston. The film would have found Kev's character shielding the princess from stalkers and paparazzi while shuffling towards an inevitable mistress-servant love affair. Recalling the conversation, Costner said of Diana: "She was very quiet and very sweet. And I said: 'Yeah, there's going to be a kissing scene.' And she laughed ... She hadn't said yes to it, but she indicated to me that she knew her life was going to change." In the event, the star-crossed pairing was not to be. Costner admitted that he received the script for Bodyguard 2 on August 31, 1997, the day before Diana was killed in a Paris car crash.
